The Son: Season 1, Episode 5. A photographer develops photos of the slaughtered Sediciosos from Eli’s ambush, then prints stacks of “Mc. Cullough Ambush” postcards. At home, Sally angrily waves one of the postcards at Pete and points out how dangerous the area has become.

She berates him for not moving their family to the city as he promised years ago. Flashback to 1. 84. Toshaway proposes that the tribe head north to avoid starvation.

Charges the Enemy refuses to leave and let the Tonkawa tribe take their land. Toshaway disagrees but decides they will stay put after other Comanche agree with Charges. Toshaway wakes Eli and tasks him with holding the horses during their upcoming battle against the Tonkawa.

Charges glares at Eli in camp. Toshaway smears war paint on Eli’s face.

The Comanche warriors ride to battle. In the present day, Pete proposes to Eli that they sell the ranch, pay off their debts and start somewhere new. Eli brushes off Pete’s idea. While out on a horse ride, Eli and Jeannie encounter Ramon, one of Eli’s workers, who nurses a wound on his head. With him is a man, who Ramon introduces as his cousin Eduardo.

Sensing danger, Eli shoots Eduardo, who turns out to be one of Piza. Ramon immediately tells Eli that the Sediciosos are planning to attack the house. Eli orders Jeannie to ride to the Garc.

They ride forth. In 1. Comanche sneak up on a Tonkawa camp only to find it deserted, ravaged by smallpox.

Toshaway tells Eli that the Tonkawa camp was decimated by a sickness and asks Eli to steal the Tonkawa horses, since white people are less susceptible to the “magic.”Eli enters the Tonkawa camp. At the stable, a sick Tonkawa man aims his gun at Eli but it is out of bullets. He asks Eli if the Comanche killed Eli’s family, then tells him to seek vengeance by bringing his blanket, horses and saddles back to the Comanche and spreading the sickness to them. In the present day, Jonas plays piano at the Mc. Cullough household. Sally smiles at his music, but gives Pete the cold shoulder. Sally looks for a croquet set in the storage shed.

Sullivan and Neptune arrive at the house and shoot back at the Sediciosos. Sally covers Jonas’s wound as he screams in pain. Pete, Charles, Sullivan, Neptune and the maids fire guns at the Sediocosos from the house. Pete starts to leave the house to look for Sally and Jonas, but Sullivan stops him after the Sediciosos raise a red flag: “No surrender, no prisoners.”Jeannie rides to the Garc.

He reluctantly brings her inside. Maria tries to reach the Mc. Cullough house by phone, but the operator is unable to make the connection.

Maria tries calling the sheriff’s office but no one answers. Pete, Charles, Sullivan, Neptune and the maids continue to fire at the Sediciosos from all rooms of the house. Maria begs Pedro to rescue the Mc.

Culloughs. Ignacio argues against helping them, since the Mc. Culloughs killed Armando and probably Cesar.

Pedro worries about getting pulled into a war that might endanger their family. Maria holds her ground and says they must set an example for the community. Sally puts Jonas in a wheelbarrow and wheels him toward the house. A Sedicioso spots her and aims his gun.

She begs him to spare their lives. He lets her go then gets shot by Eli in the head.

Eli grabs Jonas and tells Sally to run inside. Eli arrives at the house with Jonas and Sally. Pete and Charles run downstairs and find Sullivan dead. Pete helps Sally wrap Jonas’s wound. Everyone blocks the front door with furniture as the Sediciosos enter the yard.

They position themselves around the parlor, prepared for a last stand. As the Sediciosos break through the front door, Pedro arrives with his men and shoots at the Sediciosos, chasing them away. Pedro calls out to Eli and enters the parlor. He tells them that he didn’t bring back Tonkawa horses because the horses would have infected them with smallpox. Charges accuses Eli of lying, but Toshaway believes Eli. That night, Eli tells Prairie Flower that they need to avoid white people who are coming from the south and east.

She notes that he referred to white people as “them.” “You are Comanche,” she declares. They kiss. A doctor tells Pete that Jonas requires surgery in Austin. Sally tends to Jonas in the doctor’s car. Pete asks Sally to call him when they get to Austin. She coolly tells him they need to go. Pedro shakes Eli’s hand and assures him that they are allies.

Jeannie and Maria arrive at the Mc. Cullough ranch. Pete hugs Jeannie then tells Maria that she saved his family. Jeannie reunites with Eli. He notices oil on her horse’s hoof and realizes that she rode through an oil seep.

He asks Jeannie if she can remember the path she rode.
